General Summary

The Research Graduate Assistant works closely with one or more Accounting faculty members on research projects.  The work may include all phases of research, e.g., research design, literature review, data collection, data analysis, writing, and preparation/presentation of findings.

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must attach two letters of recommendation to the application.  If the UG degree is from a university other than EMU, an official transcript must be included in the application.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist university faculty/staff with research-related projects or other assignments that require the advanced discipline skills of graduate students.  This individual may also be required to perform other academic and/or departmental related duties (including occasional teaching) as needed by faculty and staff. Other duties include tutoring lab assistants.

 

Qualifications

General Requirements 

  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week (full time) or 10 hours per week (half time).
  • UG GPA >= 3.0 required for consideration and must be maintained, if appointed.
  • Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.
  • Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
  • Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

 
Area-Specific Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or enrolled in an Accounting graduate programs
  • Preference will be given to graduate students who are be able to work two consecutive semesters.
  • Basic knowledge and awareness of various university policies, state laws, and federal regulations that impact the daily work within the department.
  • Proficient computer skills, e.g. Internet, E-mail, MS Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Supplemental Information

Compensation
This assistantship carries a stipend and a tax-exempt tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours.  Any courses added or dropped late will not be covered by this assistantship.  Additionally, graduate assistants are responsible for the payment of fees other than tuition.
