General Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University seeks a highly qualified educator for a full-time 8-month, tenure track position in teacher education beginning in Fall 2024. 

The Department of Teacher Education is proud of its legacy for enacting teacher preparation and teacher learning and development that is deeply grounded in principles and practices that address diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. As a department, we seek applicants who aim to advance our goal to develop educators who embrace the spirit of wholeheartedness, know how to care for and engage all learners in the classroom, and create learning environments with effective levels of student voice and agency. More broadly, the department and college have established mutually collaborative relationships with diverse schools and community organizations with the goals of improving educator preparation, increasing the diversity of educators, engaging in youth development and learning, and contributing to transformational teaching, learning, and leading in support of healthy communities. We seek candidates who demonstrate the capacity to engage ethically in communities of practice with ethnically, racially, linguistically, and otherwise diverse populations and historically marginalized youth, families, and communities and who seek to enact such a commitment in collaboration  with others in the department, college, campus, and broader community. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. The candidate will be expected to maintain a focus in teaching, scholarship, and service as well as collaborate with colleagues throughout the university and community. The candidate will be expected to teach and serve students on and off campus, in face-to-face, and in online learning environments. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in literacy education or related field and completed by date of appointment from an accredited institution.

The candidate should have a scholarly agenda and teaching experience related to literacy education and field-based educator preparation.

The ideal candidate will have experience with school and community-engaged teaching and learning approaches, university-school partnerships, and a commitment to developing and fostering relationships with school communities to support field-based teacher education.
