General Summary
This is a Federal Work-Study (FWS) funded graduate assistantship. To be eligible, students must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It's important to confirm eligibility with the Office of Student Financial Aid before applying.
The Graduate Assistant in the Dean of Students (DOS) Office addresses non-academic, sensitive concerns related to food and housing security for students and assists and in managing cases involving student breaches of the code of conduct.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Issue Resolution: Assist with resolving and preventing academic and non-academic concerns.
Collaboration and Education: Work with specific university departments to raise awareness and educate the campus community on relevant issues.
Crisis Response: Handle walk-ins and phone inquiries, assess students' immediate or emergency needs and provide crisis consultation in coordination with the DOS and CARE team
Resource Identification: Identify and direct students to university and community resources for food insecurity and homelessness.
Referrals: Provide referrals to health and social service agencies as needed.
Information Management: Obtain updates on distressed students, facilitate information flow between relevant offices, and assist students in accessing these resources.
Student Consultation: Offer one-on-one guidance to students facing educational and personal challenges.
Referral Management: Make referrals to appropriate on-campus and community resources.
Case Coordination: Implement and coordinate recommendations from the case management team for distressed students.
Monitoring and Compliance: Coordinate follow-up and tracking of distressed students, monitor their progress, and ensure they comply with recommendations; maintain confidential student records.
Record Keeping: Complete documentation and maintain records of student cases in Advocate, an electronic database.
Documentation and Record-Keeping: Document student interactions and assist with maintaining records, including updating the electronic database system.
Data Collection and Reporting: Assist in collecting assessment data and preparing reports and presentations related to the student of concern process.
Case Follow-Up: Monitor progress and follow up on cases until resolution.
Report Preparation: Assist in preparing weekly, monthly, and annual reports detailing the services provided.
Website and Materials Maintenance: Help develop and maintain the DOS Office website, links, brochures, and other communications materials.
Policy and Procedure Development: Assist in reviewing and developing policies, procedures, and training materials to support the DOS Office's operations.
Service Improvement: Assess outcomes and develop strategies to enhance services, programs, facilities, and communication within the DOS Office.
