General Summary
The Sisterhood (Helping Others Obtain Degrees) Scholars Program is a first-year student experience designed to increase retention and graduation rates for students who identify as Women at Eastern Michigan University. Through collaborative university partnerships, the Sisterhood Scholars Program guides students in their transition to college by providing a residential community, designated courses, dialogues, membership, and workshops. Dedicated staff leads and facilitates programming that is centered around three key developmental areas: academic, human, and socio-cultural. Sisterhood Scholar students are connected to staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to provide a network of support along their collegiate journey. The ideal candidate should be available 20 hours/week. This position offers opportunities related to equity inclusion and student development.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
Enrolled in one of the following programs of study: Educational Leadership, Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education/Student Affairs (HESA) or a related field
One or more years of experience working with first-year students and/or students of color
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and
other computer applications
Proficient in Social Media targeting and communication
Ability to develop, promote, coordinate, and schedule regularly occurring programs
Experience developing marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, and social media postings
Capable of expanding existing experiences and learning new tools to enhance skills
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
Strong organizational skills
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to be flexible and handle ambiguity
Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work well with others
