General Summary

The Office of Financial Aid is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support financial literacy and student outreach efforts. This role focuses on helping students understand financial aid, budgeting, and responsible borrowing through presentations, calls, emails, and campus partnerships.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of Financial Aid seeks a Graduate Assistant (GA) to join our team.
The primary function of this GA position is to promote financial literacy, often in collaboration with other departments on campus and to provide financial aid outreach to students and families via calls, emails, presentations and possibly via social media platforms. As such, the GA may need to work outside of normal 8-5 weekday working hours. Occasional weekend and evening hours (while staying within 20 hours/week) will be expected.
The GA must demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills. Qualified candidates will also be reliable self-starters willing to take on a variety of duties including but not limited to: learning financial aid regulations, making outgoing calls, reaching out to collaborate with other departments on campus (i.e. Holman Success Center, UACDC, Campus Wellness, Financial Empowerment Center, Campus Life, etc.), answering incoming phone calls, occasional data entry and working a variety of financial aid reports

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week is required.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.
  • Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
  • Enrollment in at least six credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.
  • Abide by University Policies and Procedures.
  • Remain in good academic and judicial standing with Eastern Michigan University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office; Banner and Adobe experience is preferred but not required.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with the basic financial literacy topics of Financial Goal Setting, Budgeting, Understanding Credit, and Identity Protection.
  • Effective communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Adhere to the Office of Financial Aid Code of Ethics.
