General Summary

The Way Forward Fund is an initiative of Toyota to support people impacted by significant injuries, starting with a focus on children recovering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI). In collaboration with Engage@EMU and The College of Health and Human Services, the Way Forward Fund has developed a Youth Health Educator (YHE) Corps. aimed at training highschoolers in TBI and prevention.
The Way Forward program graduate assistant will support and coordinate activities associated with the Way Forward program, housed in Engage@EMU.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Work directly with the Health Professional Hub Coordinator to manage presentations, field trips, job shadowing, and experiential learning opportunities for certified Youth Health Educators.
  • Assist in organizing informational events and workshops for Youth Health Educators regarding academic success, college and career readiness, and health professions.

Recruitment and Outreach:

  • Manage trackers, data sheets, and registration forms for student recruitment and outreach.
  • Assist the Director and Health Professional Hub Coordinator with student recruitment and outreach at events such as, but not limited to, community events, high school open houses, etc.
  • Assist the Health Professional Hub Coordinator in motivating high school students to explore career options through the College of Health and Human Services.

Program Management

  • Manage the logistics of professional development workshops.
  • Assist in developing opportunities for Youth Health Educators to develop and enhance leadership skills.
  • Manage mentorship pairings for Youth Health Educators.
  • Track data such as student registrations, workshop attendees.
  • Track HUB usage in conjunction with the Health Professional Hub Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:

Project management.

Strong oral and written communication.

Organization and attention to detail.

Ability to work on campus and in the surrounding southeast Michigan community.

Car access/Travel required.

GA will be reimbursed for mileage.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in G Suite and/or Microsoft Office, and scheduling software, desired.
