General Summary
This position will support the Esports Coordinator in managing and developing the EMU Esports program. Most frequently, this position will oversee facility operations and the supervision of competitive staff. This position works cooperatively with other EMU departments and student organizations on campus to facilitate esports activities, programming, and a unique sense of belonging.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive programming opportunities (to include: LAN events, informal recreational opportunities and inclusive competitive teams/tournaments) for EMU students, prospective students, faculty, staff, and the wider midwestern community.
- Maintain a comprehensive esports-specific recruitment process to attract new and high performing students to EMU; particularly by attending high school regional gaming events (typically over weekend hours).
- Oversee EMU Esports the operations of competitive staff, including student team managers and contracted coaches.
- When necessary, maintain EMU Esports’ relations with intercollegiate esports organizations (such as NACE and the Esport Collegiate Conference).
- Administer select day to day operations and development initiatives of a contracted coaching staff, sports management student staff, and varsity, club, and community teams.
- Assist in contributing to the wellness of all program participants by collaborating with the Wellness Department to provide supplemental programs focusing on their wellbeing.
- Implement and evaluate all policies and procedures for esports programs and facilities including an enforced code of conduct for participants.
- Assist in ensuring the general, hardware and software maintenance of equipment.
- Keep current with the developments in the recreational sports profession, specifically as it relates to the esports program and the wider esports industry.
Provide oversight of all EMU Esports affiliated facilities to ensure the following:
- Cleanliness of equipment and venue
- Functionality of equipment and venue
- Data on facility users is collected and reportable
- Data on equipment inventory and inventory use is maintained
- Revenue generating opportunities are explored and implemented
- Support the competitive scholarship awards system in determining optimal players/students.
- Assist in the design, implement and assess marketing strategies to promote the esports program.
- Work collaboratively with campus partners to promote REC/IM programs and services to the EMU community.
- Troubleshoot issues with hardware/software and work with information/technology to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Perform related departmental duties as required.
