General Summary

Assist the head athletic trainer in the coordination and administration of sports medicine services in the health care program for all student-athletes. In addition to coordinating health care for assigned teams, this position will have primary oversight of assigned administrative responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Will fulfill the duties of an Assistant Director for Sports Medicine as needed Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference, and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Provide athletic training care and services which include: the prevention, recognition and assessment, management and care, health counseling and education, and rehabilitation for injuries and illnesses to student-athletes within the intercollegiate athletic program, as described in the Role Delineation Study of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, under the direction of the Coordinator of Athletic Training and the medical direction of the department of intercollegiate athletics team physicians.
  • Oversee the athletic medical insurance program, including serving as the primary contact for all insurance billing matters and coordinating insurance coverage for international student-athletes to comply with University requirements.
  • Oversee the sports medicine operating budget and coordinate the inventory and purchasing processes for the department.
  • Manage and organize all filing of medical records, including electronic medical record keeping.
  • Attend athletic practices and competitions in order to provide appropriate athletic training services to student-athletes in the intercollegiate athletic training program.
  • Provide clinical teaching experiences in accordance with Eastern Michigan University's Athletic Training Education Program and National Athletic Trainers' Association standards.
  • Supervise graduate assistant athletic trainers in the delivery of athletic training services in the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Maintain National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
  • Perform related department duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge and skills in sports medicine and athletic training, typically acquired through the completion of a Master's Degree in athletic training, or a related field, is necessary.

Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification is required.

At least two (2) years of experience as an athletic trainer at the collegiate or professional sports level is required.
