General Summary
Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct the programs, services, and staff of Campus Life with primary responsibility for co-curricular programming and activities, professional and student staff development, strategic planning, public relations and marketing, technical operations and fiscal management. Ensure active, multidimensional student life programs and environment in the EMU Student Center.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direction for and supervise the following program areas and staff:
- New Student and Transition Programs - Develop and manage student support and retention-based programs for new freshmen, transfer students, commuter students, adult learners, and students in transitional phases of their university experience, including new student and transfer student Orientation, the First Year Mentor Program, Commuter and Adult Learner Services.
- Leadership Development - Develop and manage student learning opportunities centered on intentional development of leadership through participation on student employment and volunteer boards, as well as through various programs and services.
- Greek Life and Student Organizations - Develop and manage academic and student life oriented programs, activities, and support services for Greek Life and Student Organizations to enhance their success and retention.
- Arts, Cultural, Intellectual, and Entertainment Programs - Establish direction for, plan and implement diverse series of campus arts, cultural, intellectual, and entertainment activities including professional performing arts series, lectures series, welcome month and other major university celebrations, film series, excursion series, academic support and daytime union programs and late night and weekend programs.
- Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional, clerical, graduate student, and undergraduate student staff, as well as student volunteer boards.
- Ensure cultural diversity and multicultural dimension is integral to programs and services, marketing materials and professional and student staffing.
- Provide direction for and supervise staff in the creation, production, and dissemination of public relations and marketing materials, promoting the department's activities, programs, services, student employment opportunities and student organization facilities to the campus and surrounding communities.
- Recommend, establish, and supervise enforcement of relevant department and university policies and procedures.
- Supervise the negotiation and execution of contracts in accordance with university policies and procedures.
- Supervise, plan, manage and implement technology and web-based programs, services and communications strategies.
- Identify needs and develop strategic plans for services, improvements, equipment and programs.
- Develop and manage databases and other records necessary to maintain longitudinal data of the efficacy of programs.
- Ensure learning assessments, program evaluations and student interest surveys are conducted regularly.
- Manage fiscal resources, e.g. budget planning and expenditure control; exercise direct control over Campus Involvement overhead and programming (general fee and general fund) accounts.
- Manage appropriate collection and deposit of cash funds for ticketed events.
- Plan, organize, market and implement Campus Involvement and/or divisional fundraising initiatives.
- Actively seek opportunities to raise funds in support of the department, including grants, sponsorships and individual gifts.
- Act as point person for collaborative or joint co-curricular programming and/or service initiatives with other departments, faculty and staff, student organizations and their advisors.
- Represent the department and the division on university and/or community planning groups and committees.
- Ensure that the department maintains an active role in relevant state, regional and national professional organizations and associations.
- Develop alumni databases, maintain positive relations with and involve alumni of the department.
- Perform related departmental duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in College Student Personnel or related field is necessary.
Ten years of relevant experience, including at least six years with supervisory responsibility is necessary.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and detail oriented organizational skills are necessary.
Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently is necessary.
Must be willing to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
