General Summary

Provide technical expertise, knowledge and support for Eastern Michigan's enterprise applications and IT associates utilizing project/SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) techniques; including feasibility study, requirements definition, business design, technical design and specifications, and testing, documentation and implementation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, analyze, develop, and implement enterprise wide applications and/or enhancements to existing applications.
  • Plan, analyze, develop, and implement technical solutions to improve business processes for internal or external partners.
  • Assist colleagues and IT associates with technical knowledge for project and SDLC documentation.
  • Assist IT associates with business process review and reinvention.
  • Assist in the migrations of vendor application patch/release upgrades as appropriate.
  • Plan, analyze, develop, and implement interfaces for enterprise applications to other internal or external systems.
  • Maintain/support applications and troubleshoot to resolve data problems to minimize downtime and loss of productivity and service.
  • Provide necessary support to vendors to resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate, acquire, and/or develop, and install utility programs and procedures to enhance technical performance and proficiency.
  • In consultation with the requestor, review proposals for changes to existing systems submitted by users, management, and computing staff; conduct feasibility studies, requirements definition, business and technical design specifications, testing and documentation.
  • Adhere to the University's standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assess new standards, technologies and trends, and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Participate in project teams with increasing responsibilities leading to the development of project leadership skills.
  • Perform related departmental duties, as required

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field plus approximately two years relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience that enable the performance of all aspects of the position, is necessary. 

At least 2 years of demonstrated experience developing in an enterprise system, such as Ellucian Banner running in an Oracle/UNIX environment, is required.

Proficiency with enterprise environment technologies such as Oracle PL/SQL, GraphQL, PHP, and API integration tools is required.

Advanced knowledge of: systems and web development and analysis; systems integration of operations systems, applications, networks, and databases, as well as formal data structure design, relational database design, and file structure; applications software; operating systems and utilities; communication interfaces; interactive debugging and testing; and identifying and resolving software/hardware interface problems.

Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service focus is required.

Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users is required.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment is required.

Ability to make decisions with imperfect information is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline is preferred.

At least 2 years of experience with Ellucian Banner and its extensibility tools including Experience Premium, Xtender, ProcessMaker/Ellucian Workfow, and Ethos integration APIs and tools is preferred.
