General Summary

The Primary responsibility of this position is to advise students and parents about financial aid programs and eligibility requirements, determine financial aid eligibility based on federal, state, and institutional policy/regulations, and administer specific financial aid programs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous financial aid assistance and counseling services on a daily basis to students, parents, university staff and others regarding financial aid policy and processes through email, telephone, in person, presentations, and social media.
  • Review financial aid applications, determine eligibility, and award aid.
  • Administer Federal, State, and institutional financial aid programs.
  • Review and interpret regulations in reference to financial aid awarding requirements, to ensure continued eligibility.
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of various reports.
  • Visit secondary schools, community colleges, and community groups to promote and explain the University's financial aid program.
  • Review and interpret regulations in reference to financial aid awarding requirements.
  • Represent the Office of Financial Aid to one or more University departments and offices.
  • Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree is required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and use professional judgment in order to determine financial aid eligibility and award financial aid, is required.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.

Ability to work evenings and weekends during certain times of the year is required.

One year of direct financial aid office experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Access, Crystal Reports and SCT Banner is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of the University's Red Flags Rule and Identify Theft Prevention Policy and Procedure.
