General Summary
Recruit, counsel, and coach student participants in the University's Cheer Team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the EMU Cheer Team and coach the students to compete at a high level.
- Recruit cheerleaders to help grow and improve the academic and competitive level of the EMU Cheer Team.
- Conduct tryouts 1-2 times per year.
- Hold a consistent practice schedule throughout the week.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the Athletics Marketing Staff, Head Dance Coach and Director of Bands at EMU to create fun, high-energy, and positive game day traditions.
- Prepare the EMU Cheer Team to compete the national level.
- Manage the assigned Cheer Team budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Conduct numerous fundraisers throughout the season to bring income back into the program.
- Maintain clear communication with the EMU Marketing Staff to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, appearances, and initiatives while keeping the administration aware of matters within the Cheer program.
- Help oversee and coordinate Swoop the mascot on game days.
- Market/promote EMU home athletic events on campus through the utilization of the spirit squads.
- Attend home athletic events and special events, supervising the cheer program as well as helping with the game day initiatives.
- Attend department all-staff meetings and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required.
At least two (2) years of relevant experience is required.
