General Summary
Engage@EMU, which cultivates and creates community and university initiatives, is one of the partners of the Digital Connecting Corps (DCC). The DCC, a collaboration between Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) department of Occupational Therapy and Engage@EMU, seeks to implement and expand an intergenerational and sustainable digital support program for older adults living in Washtenaw County. Our goal is to utilize the resources of student capital to consistently serve as tech coaches for the older adult community at Washtenaw County older adult Centers and Ypsilanti District Library. The goal is to focus on supporting DCC logistics, programming onsite in local senior supporting agencies and coordinating device distribution. The Digital Connecting Corps Program Coordinator position will require an individual capable and interested in cultivating partnerships with community partners, supporting the growth and sustainability of this intergenerational program in various capacities, and data collection used to guide decision making and assess impact.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating device distribution for participants
- Maintaining device waitlist.
- Acquiring devices for participant use.
- Calling participants to notify them when devices are available.
- Transporting devices to the Senior Center, Library and individual residences for distribution.
- Provide needed level of on-site program support at each DCC site, including:
- Assisting in setting up space (tables, chairs, power strips, projector, screen, etc.).
- Generating sign up sheets, signing up participants, and tracking attendance.
- Working with Ypsilanti Library, Senior Center staff to acquire any needed equipment for the workshops.
- Supporting tech coaches w/ questions and assisting participants when able.
- Working with senior center directors to adjust programming based off of their needs, feedback, and facility operations.
- Needed level of support varies depending on site needs & workshop structure.
- Serve as a liaison among stakeholders of the program.
- Discuss program needs with Occupational Therapy faculty and actualize discussed changes.
- Ensure that interaction forms are completed for each participant of each workshop and supporting the tech coaches to make this happen.
- Maintain the Data Dashboard to ensure that the collected information is accurate, reliable, and available.
- Input data collected from all distributed assessments into spreadsheets.
- Create and share informational flyers with community partners as needed.
- Serve as a first point of contact for interested individuals who want to learn about DCC at their respective locations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an EMU master’s degree program in Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) or other master’s degree program with significant background and concentration in health related fields.
- General knowledge of tech skills preferred (Email, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, smart phones, apps).
- Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff including those from diverse backgrounds.
- General knowledge of how to track, input and analyze statistical data.
- Interest in working with older adult populations and technology accessibility.
- Previous experience demonstrating strong leadership abilities, influencing others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas.
- Ability to work independently and analytically, exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient computer skills.
- Ability to manage multiple sites associated with the project; strong planning and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate program development and management experience.
- Team-oriented towards program design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Energy, creativity, ability to assume responsibility; take initiative and develop new programs.
- Successfully pass background screening.
