General Summary

Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, this role will assist in day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's Title IX and Civil Rights Case Management and Report Intakes. Additionally, the role will lead in-person and virtual student training, and track annual online training for students and mandated reporters.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead for responding to and leading all intake meetings from reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual and gender-based misconduct or pregnancy support by any student, employee, or guest.
  • Work directly with individuals affected by pregnancy, sexual and gender-based harassment and misconduct, and other forms of discrimination and harassment to provide information, connection to resources, options, and coordinate their supportive measures with faculty, police, or other campus or off-campus resources.
  • Maintain up-to-date records through the case management software of all reports of discrimination and harassment based upon a protected category and/or sexual and gender-based harassment and misconduct.
  • Serve as lead in maintaining the annual online training program and lead all in-person student employee mandated reporter and educational training, including reviewing and updating all training.
  • Develop and coordinate the distribution of educational materials to the EMU community regarding reporting discrimination and harassment based upon a protected category and/or sexual and gender-based harassment and misconduct and preventing such behavior.
  • Serve as Facilitator for Title IX Formal Hearings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Gender Studies, or other relevant fields is required.

Experience effectively dealing with sensitive and complex issues is required.

Experience in the development and delivery of training is required.

At least one year of experience in Student Affairs, Case Management, Student Conduct, Title IX, Civil Rights, or other related fields is required.

Must possess a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage caseload in a manner that ensures the prompt, impartial and thorough conclusion of such matters while working discreetly and with sensitive information is required.

Demonstrated effectiveness working with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff is required. Knowledge of Title IX, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), SaVE Act, Clery Act, FERPA is required.

Basic personal computing skills to utilize Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and perform file management functions are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s degree is preferred.

Knowledge of specific software applications utilized in the area of assignment is preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of university, state and federal policies, systems, procedures and regulations as they pertain to Title IX, and to areas of the university that interact with this office is preferred. Ability to manage projects and to work collaboratively is preferred.

Experience in student conduct, education law, equal opportunity/affirmative action, human resources, or other fields; specifically, professional experience conducting investigations is preferred. Investigation experience in a college setting is highly preferred.

Training in trauma-informed investigation techniques is preferred.

Experience working with college students and the student conduct process is preferred.

Title IX-related training or certification through a nationally recognized organization (i.e. ATIXA) is preferred.

Ability to remain impartial and work under stress is preferred.

Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information is preferred.

Demonstrated sound judgment in reviewing and evaluating information and in determining findings is preferred.

Demonstrated excellent skills and abilities in conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, interviewing, and investigating is preferred.

Ability to write concise, logical, and analytical reports to convey complex issues is preferred.

Ability to understand, interpret, and explain complex legal documents to various audiences in an understandable manner is preferred.

Ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individuals is preferred.

Ability to flex interpersonal style to interact with and support others most effectively is preferred.

Ability to present education and training to small and large groups of students and employees is preferred.

Demonstrate high ethical and moral standards.

Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support the operational needs of the office and the university is preferred.
