General Summary
The Associate Director of Programming of the Southeast Michigan Stewardship Coalition (SEMIS Coalition) is responsible for the supervision of daily operations for an organization that fosters the art and craft of place-based education into core practices in schools.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a field related to Social Foundations of Education, EcoJustice Education, Place-Based Education, and/or environmental education is required.
K-12 Teaching Certificate is required.
Teaching K-12 classroom (2 year minimum), experience in facilitating and planning in-person and virtual teacher professional development, experience in community partner formation and management required.
Strong personal and professional network in Southeast Michigan with a focus on Detroit and Ypsilanti is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to facilitate teacher professional learning and curriculum planning.
Forming community partnerships with a variety of partners including K-12 districts and schools, non-profits, grassroots activists, government agencies, and diverse funders.
Systems thinking and adaptive leadership.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Fundraising and grant reporting.
Skills in quantitative and qualitative research with database and statistical management.
Familiarity with various software programs and social media platforms.
Must have the ability to support and supervise staff, promote staff wellbeing, and facilitate staff discussions around issues of social and ecological justice.
Place-Based and Ecojustice Education philosophy and pedagogy.
Knowledge of outdoor learning is preferred.
Knowledge of student field experience planning and coordination is preferred.
Knowledge of Michigan and Great Lakes ecosystems as well as issues of social and ecological justice that are specific to Southeast Michigan is preferred.
Knowledge of arts integration with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education is preferred.
