General Summary

Assist in the administration of diverse financial aid programs and internal policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate to students and other interested persons available financial aid programs, eligibility requirements and procedures.
  • Assist advisors with the processing of financial aid application materials to determine aid eligibility status.
  • Advise lower-level staff on matters relative to appropriate office and/or financial aid application guidelines.
  • Assist the Director and/or Assistant Directors in developing procedures for processing, recording, and filing various financial aid award and disbursement transactions.
  • Assist in the review and revision of office policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of various reports.
  • Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Perform related departmental duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of basic accounting principles, business correspondence, and automated office systems, with strong skills in written and interpersonal communication, organization, and problem solving, typically acquired through the completion of two years of post-high school business-related coursework, is necessary in order to assist in the administration of diverse financial aid programs and internal policies and procedures.

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education is required. 

Ability to analyze and accurately review large volumes of data to ensure integrity of computerized database, and to independently prioritize, organize and carry out work assignments to comply with deadlines is required.

Previous experience providing knowledge and skills in computer systems, use of reporting applications and database systems is necessary. 

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.

Three years' directly-related, high-volume records' processing and customer service experience is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional course work and/or experience equivalent to an Associates degree is preferred.

Experience in Microsoft Access and Excel is desired.

Two years' experience within EMU's Financial Aid Office is desirable.

Knowledge of the University's Red Flags Rule and Identify Theft Prevention Policy and Procedure.

Working knowledge of Financial Aid principles, typically acquired through two years of clerical/customer service work experience in a Financial Aid related position is desired.
