General Summary

Responsible for the coordination and assessment of programs and support services developed for students through the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center (LGBTRC). Assist with fostering a welcoming and supportive community for students from LGBTQ+ backgrounds. Provide general administrative support for the Office of Access and Opportunity Programs. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate relevant programming and services for LGBTQ+ students, from an intersectional lens, such as conferences, workshops, and collaborative programs with other departments (Outober, the Lavender Graduation of Role Models and Mentors Program and the Eastern Pride Identity Coalition).
  • Coordinate initiatives that engage and increase retention and degree completion for LGBTQ+ students along with addressing campus climate concerns.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of collaborative cross-campus initiatives relating to the LGBTQ+ community from an intersectional lens.
  • Provide support for the LGBTRC Advisory Board.
  • Recruit, train, develop and supervise the LGBTRC student staff, graduate assistant, and volunteers, and assist with training other student staff within the Office of Access and Opportunity Programs.
  • Administer programs within assigned fiscal resources, and manage appropriate collection and deposit of funds for ticketed events.
  • Assist with the identification and development of grant proposals to support departmental activities.
  • Provide direction for and work with student staff in the creation, production and dissemination of public relations and marketing materials, promoting the department's activities, and student employment opportunities to the campus and surrounding communities.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students in the LGBTRC and department.
  • Conduct one-on-one and group meetings to provide information and mentoring.
  • Supervise, plan, manage and implement technology and web-based programs, services and communication/marketing strategies for the LGBTRC.
  • Conduct learning assessments, program evaluations and student interest surveys on a regular basis.
  • Develop tools to assess student needs to measure achievement of student learning outcomes and to ensure high quality programming.
  • Operate within and enforce relevant department and university policies and procedures.
  • Plan, implement and manage technology and web-based programs, social media and other communication and marketing strategies.
  • Ensure that the LGBTRC maintains an active role in relevant state, regional and national professional organizations and associations.
  • Represent the LGBTRC and Office of Access and Opportunity Programs on university and/or community planning groups and committees.
  • Support the Director with development and implementation of departmental initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge and skills in student development and diversity, equity and inclusion practices, typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree in educational administration, college student personnel, guidance and counseling, or other related field or the combination of education, work experience, and other relevant credentials that enable the performance of all aspects of the position is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, risk management guidelines, issues and concerns specific to the LGBTQ+ student population is required.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills is required.

Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Window and/or Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the internet and web-based forms is required.

Must be willing to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years of professional, post-graduate work experience planning, organizing and evaluating programs pertaining to social justice in higher education or community organization is desired.

Professional work experience in either an LGBT-related community agency or college LGBT office is preferred, including experience in developing and providing support services, educational programming, advocacy, intervention, mentoring, resources and referrals to the LGBTQ+ community.

Expertise in LGBT-related research and/or LGBT-focused academic work is desirable.

Experience in providing oversight to a program or office, including developing and managing budgets, and supervising staff and/or students.

Working knowledge of research or academic work on diversity or social justice is desirable.
