General Summary

The Graduate Assistant for the Admissions Welcome Center will serve as part of the Undergraduate Admissions team and participate in all aspects of the University’s overall recruitment efforts. Our team works collaboratively to recruit undergraduate students, including first-year, transfer, and international populations. This position will assist with Admissions Welcome Center operations and initiatives. This position will require some evening and weekend hours and may require travel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the daily operations of the Admissions Welcome Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the supervisor, Associate Director of Admissions Visits & Events, to supervise and support student employees in designated areas.
  • Assist with the hiring, training, and development of student employees (tour guides, welcome specialists, and coordinators), including supporting meetings, interviews, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate with the Associate Director in coordinating admissions recruitment events (e.g., Open Houses, Admitted Student Receptions, etc.).
  • Oversee the group visit program in collaboration with Campus Experience Coordinators.
  • Assist the Recruitment, Training, and Development Coordinators with hiring, training, and providing professional development to student staff, as needed.
  • Assist Social Leaders with office culture planning and engagement activities.

Assist with Undergraduate Admissions recruitment efforts as needed; responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Visit secondary schools and community colleges to meet with counselors, teachers, students, and administrators regarding Eastern Michigan University’s programs and opportunities for prospective students.
  • Deliver presentations to prospective students, families, and school partners on and off campus.
  • Represent Eastern Michigan University at recruitment events throughout the Midwest, including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and surrounding areas. This position will assist with recruitment efforts in the Associate Director’s assigned territories.
  • Adhere to all NCAA, Mid-American Conference, and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Follow admissions policies and procedures to ensure all students and guests have a positive experience with the University.
  • Meet with prospective students and families to explain admissions policies, academic programs, cost of attendance, and other factors related to the college selection process.
  • Perform additional related departmental duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to work at least 20 hours per week is required (hybrid availability expected).

Admission to and enrollment in a graduate program is required.

Maintenance of at least 67% course completion is required.

Enrollment in at least 6 credit hours during Fall and Winter semesters is required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in all forms of communication and comply with FERPA, University, and Dean of Students Office guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
