General Summary

Perform skilled roofing work.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs work required for the repair, maintenance and installation of roofs, including: built-up, EPDM modified bitumen, metal, slate, P.V.C. and shingle roofs.
  • Repairs roof blisters, buckles, wrinkles, fish mounts, and otherwise deteriorated roof areas.
  • Seek out and repair roof leaks after finding sources of penetration.
  • Ensure that roof drains are clean and free-flowing.
  • Repairs building fascia, flashing, coping, roof expansion joints, and roof ventilators.
  • Maintain ladders, swing stages, scaffolding, and other related roofing equipment and use them as appropriate in the performance of job duties.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Perform basic and semi-complex carpentry assignments as required by workload demands and/or priorities of the department.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas and all tools, vehicles, and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Determine and request parts and materials required for jobs.
  • Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
  • Assist in coordinating work assignments to ensure timely job completion.
  • Report any damage, malfunctions, irregularities, and/or potential hazards in buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, or supplies to the supervisor.
  • Operate motor vehicles.
  • Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education is necessary.

Documented successful completion of a Department of Labor-recognized Roofing Apprenticeship Program and possession of a Department of Labor-recognized Roofing journeyperson's card with documentation of the required work experience is necessary.

Additional skilled Roofing experience with at least eight years of the last ten years on the active payroll of a State of Michigan licensed Roofing contractor performing tasks pertinent to EMU's needs is necessary.

Ability to perform physically active work of a medium-heavy nature, requiring frequent walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching activity to perform skilled Roofing work and frequent lifting requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force to transport a toolbox, Roofing materials, plywood, or other supplies and equipment is necessary.

Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is necessary.

Ability to meet Departmental standards of reasonable personal hygiene is necessary.

Additional Information:

Salary: FM 22 = $42.47 an hour/$88,338.00 annually.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
