General Summary

Manage, administer, and implement the goals and objectives of the federally funded Upward Bound pre-college program for underrepresented high school students.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct initiatives of the program components including curriculum, academic support and monitoring, career exploration, college preparation and personal growth and development of participants during both the academic year and the six-week summer residential components of the program.
  • Collaborate with other TRIO programs on campus.
  • Oversee the development of the Upward Bound continuance of funding proposal.
  • Develop and maintain department budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Supervise all efforts related to the recruitment, identification, selection, assessment, and placement of program participants and work directly with the target school's leadership to facilitate workplace and school initiatives that allow for student workshops, meetings, and storage.
  • Establish, approve, and evaluate department programs and staff and approve all personnel actions for the department.
  • Represent the department at professional conferences, meetings, on university committees and serve as liaison with the U.S. Department of Education, participating school districts, and other community partners.
  • Participate actively in community ventures directly related to the served demographic, such as Parkridge community meetings, organizational boards, and committees.
  • Prepare administrative reports on program initiatives and plan and implement professional development and strategic planning for full-time staff.
  • Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's Degree is required, preferably in Education.

Knowledge and skills in educational program planning, student counseling, organization, and general administration are necessary.

Three years progressively more responsible experience administering an educational or human service program including program management and evaluation, fiscal responsibility, and staff supervision and development is required.

Knowledge of and experience with U.S. Department of Education TRIO programs is preferred.

Knowledge of the psychological, behavioral, and educational issues affecting the learning potential of low-income, potential first-generation, multicultural youth is necessary.

Knowledge of evaluation/assessment strategies, academic intervention, and accommodations for students with IEP's should be able to be demonstrated.

Excellent oral and written communication skills is necessary.

Successful grant writing experience is necessary.
