General Summary
The Student Organizations Graduate Assistant supports the Coordinator for Activities & Engagement in planning and implementing student organization-centered opportunities and leadership development programs for student organizations at EMU. The Graduate Assistant also supports the growth and development of student organizations through individual advising, tracking and maintaining organization data and records, offering training and resource materials, and any other relevant administrative responsibilities.This position begins in January, 2026 with a semesterly stipend pay of $4,800 with continuing summer hourly pay of $15/hr
for 15-20 hours per week.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, train, and advise EMU’s diverse community of 150+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).
- Develop, facilitate, process, and update annual RSO applications via online management systems such as:
- (Re)Registration
- Funding allocations
- Resource allocations
- Event participation
- Co-supervise and collaborate with the Student Organizations Council to help plan and implement leadership programs, workshops, and relevant curriculum.
- Co-supervise and collaborate with Engagement Student Assistants to ensure administrative tasks are running smoothly and effectively.
- Foster student development through the creation of comprehensive co-curricular experiences.
- Collaborate with the Campus Life design team to create marketing for RSO events and programs.
- Work with new RSOs through onboarding to establish University presence.
- Develop collaborative relationships with various University offices and organizations.
- Plan annual student organization fairs – Eagle Fest in the fall semester, and Winter Fest in the winter semester.
- Maintain and ensure adherence to EMU and Campus Life RSO policies and procedures, including:
- Student organization registrations, constitutions, and disseminating campus rules and regulations (Student Organizations Handbook and Student Code).
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a graduate program at EMU. Preference given to students studying Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, Business Administration, and other relevant fields.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication with emphasis on clear and concise language.
- Experience with data entry and analysis.
- Extremely detail and process oriented.
- Comfortable learning and navigating electronic data & communication systems.
- Comfortable enforcing rules and processes with peers and faculty/staff advisors.
