General Summary

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Activities supports the planning, execution, and evaluation of campus activities and events that center a wide range of student interests, identities, and communities. They are responsible for daily support of the office/student team, initiating and maintaining partnerships with other departments and organizations, oversight of the project management tools, and strategic and visionary planning (including assessment and reporting) alongside their supervisor. Annual events include: Orientation After Dark, Homecoming, Student Center Patio Parties, Student Organization Socials, Finals Lounge, and trips off campus. Working late nights (7-10pm) and some weekends are required. The position is set for twenty hours per week. This position begins in June at a summer hourly pay of $15/hr and transitions in fall/winter semesters to stipend pay $4,500/semester.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of event planning.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the Office of Campus Life.
  • Develop understanding and awareness of the dynamic (and changing) needs/desires of students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and interests. 
  • Meet with planning teams to determine program needs.
  • Provide staffing support at events and programs. 
  • Assist in the supervision of the student staff (including hiring, onboarding, continuous training, and individual evaluations).
  • Assist with the development of goals and outcomes.
  • Participate in the evaluation and assessment of programs to include end of year reports.
  • Maintain regular office hours and attend or facilitate weekly team meetings.
  • Maintain thorough records throughout the year that can serve as transition documents.
  • Serve on department, division, and university committees as needed.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Working late nights (7-10pm) and some weekends are required.
