General Summary

The Fraternity & Sorority Life Graduate Assistant supports the Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life in planning and implementing student activities programs and leadership development programs for chapters and their members. The Graduate Assistant also supports the development of all FSL educational programming through individual advising, tracking and maintaining organization data and records, offering training and resource materials, managing marketing strategies and materials, attending pertinent meetings, etc. This position begins in June at a summer hourly pay of $15/hr and transitions in fall/winter semesters to stipend pay of $4,500/semester, equally distributed in 17 pay periods through April 2027.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Co-advise the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), Interfraternity Council (IFC), and College Panhellenic Association (CPA) in all endeavors and activities to promote learning, values congruence, risk management, and personal and organizational development. 
  • Co-advise the Order of Omega and Gamma Sigma Alpha honor societies.
  • Help plan and implement leadership programs including New Member Institutes, Council Retreats, and Presidents Retreats.
  • Keep FSL records, database, and website updated and accurate.
  • Complete and compile statistics, semester grade reports, and other community data as assigned.
  • Network within EMU and the surrounding community to create opportunities for civic engagement and facilitate these opportunities for chapters through training, support, networking and reflection activities.
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of community initiatives and events.
  • Assist in the annual AFLV Awards Assessment Process with NPHC, MGC, CPA, and IFC officers.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with various University offices and organizations.
  • Create an awareness of Campus Life resources and opportunities.
  • Implement EMU and Campus Life policies and procedures, including: student organization registrations, constitutions, and disseminating campus rules and regulations (Student Organizations Handbook and Student Code).
  • Supervise two undergraduate student assistants.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned to support Fraternity & Sorority Life and other Campus Life programmatic efforts (e.g. Eagle Fest, Homecoming, Campus Life Staff Retreat, etc.).
